DR. MUHAMMAD RASUL JAN

Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan belongs to picturesque Swat Valley in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He graduated from Jahanzeb College, Swat and obtained his M.Sc. and M.Phil. degrees in Chemistry from the University of Peshawar in 1976-79. In 1983, he did his Ph.D. from University College Cork, Ireland. In 2003-04, he attended New Mexico State University USA as a Fulbright Scholar and in 2005, he was associated with the Bio Design Institute, Arizona State University USA as Visiting Scientist. He is Fellow of the Chemical Society of Pakistan since 1994 and Fellow of Pakistan Academy of Sciences.
Starting with his Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship at the University College Dublin, Ireland, he progressively moved on to more important academic positions culminating in Professorship at his alma-mater in 2012. He remained Chairman of the Environmental Science Department and Director Institute of Chemical Sciences. University of Peshawar.
His core research areas include “Method Development for Determination of Chemical Species of Environmental & Biological Importance, Recycling, Electro Analytical Chemistry & Fabrication of Sensors.
During 2008-12, he served as Vice-Chancellor, University of Malakand. In 2013-17 he was elevated as Vice-Chancellor, University of Peshawar. His last appointment as Vice Chancellor was at the University of Poonch Rawalakot, Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Presently, he is associated with the University of Peshawar as Professor Emeritus. He has extensively contributed to knowledge creation and human resource development. He has to his credit 276 publications in reputed international journals with 2600 citations and H-index of 24.
In recognition of his distinguished services, he was decorated with the “Pride of Performance” in 2010 and “Sitara-e-Imtiaz” in 2016.
